"When logic dictates one course of action and the Word of God declares another, to which will we consent?"

David Guion for one24worship.com

Encouraging the daily praise and worship of Jesus Christ because worship is a daily lifestyle, not just a weekly event!

David Guion on one24worship.comLife Journal Reading for November 19: Matthew 1-4

Matthew 3:15 "But Jesus answered him, 'Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then he consented."

John the Baptizer rightly discerned the order here: Jesus is certainly more important than John (or us!) After all, Jesus is God in a human body and we are, well, we are humans in human bodies.

John's hesitation at baptizing Jesus is understandable but common sense alone does not always represent God's righteousness. Although it did not seem logical, it was evidently the right thing for John to baptize Jesus. Our attention must focus upon John's response ~ "Then he consented."

Are there areas in our lives where common sense would dictate one response but it would seem that the Holy Spirit is saying something contradictory? To which voice will we consent? John was reluctant but ultimately submitted to the voice of Jesus rather than to logic.

Where are we reluctant to act when Jesus speaks? Perhaps common sens would say, "Don't take the risk!" To that, perhaps Jesus is saying, "Following me removes the possibility of risk!"

Are we willing to consent to the voice of the Lord or will we stand our ground? One option is righteous, the other is sin. What is He saying? To which voice will we consent?

Lord, grant that we may hear your voice and trust You and obey.

Until next time,

Resting Our Trust In The Lord

David Guion for one24worship.com

Encouraging the daily praise and worship of Jesus Christ because worship is a daily lifestyle, not just a weekly event!

David Guion on one24worship.comIsaiah 36:4 "And the Rabshakeh said to them, 'Say to Hezekiah, "Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: On what do you rest this trust of yours?"'"

Sennacherib, King of Assyria, had been successful in taking city after city with his strong army. He overpowered the fortified cities of Judah and arrives at Jerusalem where he taunts the Lord and attempts to intimidate the people of God.

He does this by sending his royal counselor for military affairs (the Rabshakeh) to speak on his behalf and his very first question is - "On what do you rest this trust of yours?"

Do we venture out into our day each day prepared to answer a question like that? On what or in whom are we trusting today? To be sure, for believers in God, the right answer is, "My trust is in the Lord today!"

But what would that look like? What would it look like today - this day - for us to truly rest our trust in the Lord?

I think that part of the answer may actually be pointed to in the question itself. Here's what I mean:

Authentic trust in something or someone automatically produces something within us. An attitude emerges from deep within each of us when we're genuinely trusting someone or something.

This attitude is called...

rest.

When we really place our trust in the Lord, though we may labor and work diligently on the outside, there comes a settled-ness (I don't think that's a real word) on the inside - an abiding confidence that no matter what may come our way, we can be at rest on the inside.

Lord, if I place my trust in myself or in others today, then I will not experience authentic rest on the inside. Grant that I may rest my trust in You today.

A Rash Mouth and A Hasty Heart

David Guion for one24worship.com

Encouraging the daily praise and worship of Jesus Christ because worship is a daily lifestyle, not just a weekly event!

David Guion on one24worship.comEcclesiastes 5:2 "Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few."

MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, Wordpress and Blogger - words, words, words! So much noise clutter, sound, text!

Solomon says that it is better to draw near to God to listen rather than to offer what he calls "the sacrifice of fools." (Ecc. 5:1) In this technological age of iPhones and OnStar and XM Satellite Radio - as well as a multitude of other sophisticated communication devices, apps, and tools - at least two question arise out of this passage for me:

1) Is there ever a significant block of time when we just turn it all "OFF" and get still and quiet?

To be still, quiet, even contemplative is, I believe, increasingly rare. To some, it may seem like a waste of time - I mean, there's so much to do, so much to communicate about! And yet, whenever we put a bracket around a significant amount of time to be still and center our hearts and minds upon the Lord, there can come a peace, patience, and inner strength to our lives.

2) How would others describe us: as a good talker or as a good listener?

Solomon goes on to say that a fool's voice comes with many words. (Ecc. 5:3) What would our day be like today if we practiced the discipline of listening more rather than talking more; having an attitude that we have something to "hear" today rather than something to "say" today? What might we learn about others, ourselves, and God?

Hmm, I suppose I should stop writing now.

Lord, today, let the words I speak be fewer than the words I hear.

The Leech Has Two Daughters!

David Guion for one24worship.com

Encouraging the daily praise and worship of Jesus Christ because worship is a daily lifestyle, not just a weekly event!

David Guion on one24worship.comProverbs 30:15 "The leech has two daughters: Give and Give. Three things are never satisfied; four never say, 'Enough':"

Oft quoted and way overused is the lyric made famous by Mick Jagger, "I can't get no satisfaction!" (Disregarding the double-negative, of course.)

Blood-sucking leeches seemingly never say, "Enough!" They just keep consuming and consuming until everything is eaten up. Our culture, our world is the same way; "Give me more!"

I am the same way!

There's always some new gadget or tool that comes along. Marketing strategies thrive upon and play to this presumed need. We are all bombarded with the message, "You need more! What you have is not enough!"

We are craving factories!

So, the question is, what's it going to take to satisfy me/you/us? Just how much is enough?

I was reminded this past Sunday that Howard Hughes, when asked that question, responded by saying, "Just a little bit more."

Agur, the son of Jaken, had quite a different response. He said essentially, "Lord, don't let me be so poor that I'm tempted to steal and profane Your name, but don't give me so much that I deny You and start saying, 'Who's the Lord?'" Proverbs 30:8-9

The American economic system is built upon debt. Money itself is created by debt.

(Check out the 10 minute YouTube video below for more info.)

Unfortunately, debt is like a blood-sucking leech that continually says, "Gimme, gimme!"

Lord, show us today that our satisfaction can only be found in You, not in just Your blessings, but in You Yourself.

The Global Day of Prayer | "A Prayer for the World"

David Guion for one24worship.com

Encouraging the daily praise and worship of Jesus Christ because worship is a daily lifestyle, not just a weekly event!

David Guion on one24worship.comHabakkuk 2:14, "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the as the waters cover the sea."

2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Hi everybody.

Hey, today is an amazing day. It's Pentecost Sunday and it's also The Global Day of Prayer - a prayer movement like none other in history.

This past Thursday, I received an e-mail from Bob Bakke of the Global Day of Prayer confirming that there are indeed registered gatherings for the Global Day of Prayer in every one of the 220 recognized countries of the world and by the time you read this update, most of those gatherings will have already lifted up their prayers.

In the US, there are 130 registered gatherings, with many if not most of the meetings happening this evening. You can visit gdop-usa.com to find out if there's a gathering in your area.

Now, if a gathering is not taking place in your area, you can still participate in the Global Day of Prayer. Here are a couple of options:

First, you can check out The Global Day of Prayer World-wide Movement Podcast.

I've just posted an episode called, "A Prayer for the World." In this episode, I simply walk through the written text of the "Prayer for the World" which has already been (and will be) prayed through, in agreement, at every registered GDOP gathering throughout the whole world.

You can click here for a downloadable PDF version of "A Prayer for the World."

If there's not a GDOP gathering close to you, then listening to the GDOP Podcast might be a great way to join in on what has already been going on around the globe. Even if you listen to the episode after the fact, you can still pray through the "Prayer for the World." It's a powerful confession and declaration.

Next, GOD TV founders Rory & Wendy Alec, are broadcasting a marathon, two-day broadcast with LIVE Global Day of Prayer coverage originating from Brazil, Hong Kong and Africa’s Ivory Coast!

The GOD TV GDOP broadcast is scheduled to be happening LIVE via satellite on DIRECTV Channel 365 or you can watch the broadcast streaming on the web at
god.tv.

Finally, don't forget that there are opportunities for service coming out of the Global Day of Prayer through the 90 Days of Blessing. I'll be getting some more information to you about the 90 Days of Blessing during the coming weeks.

Okay, that's all I've got for now. Please take a moment to join us in prayer over at the Global Day of Prayer World-wide Movement Podcast as we pray through "A Prayer for the World."

Have a great Global Day of Prayer and I hope to see you again soon, Lord willing.

The GDOP is Coming on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st

David Guion for one24worship.com

Encouraging the daily praise and worship of Jesus Christ because worship is a daily lifestyle, not just a weekly event!

David Guion on one24worship.comHabakkuk 2:14, "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the as the waters cover the sea."

2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Hi everybody.

Hey, I want to take a moment to let you know about something that's about to begin.

As you probably already know, on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st, millions of believers from all around the world will be uniting together for this years Global Day of Prayer. It's an incredible opportunity for people to come together in gatherings of all sizes and in all sorts of venues and locations in repentance and prayer all around the world. That's on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st.

But starting tomorrow, Thursday, May 21st, as in previous years, the Global Day of Prayer 10 Days of Constant Prayer will begin.

This Thursday, May 21st, I’m planning to be praying through segments of the Lord’s Prayer and 2 Chronicles 7:14 each day for 10 days straight, along with several hundred thousand of my closest friends from all around the globe!

We’ll be using The 10 Days of Prayer Guide that's available from waymakers.org. Now, if you haven’t already purchased your copy of the Prayer Guide from waymakers, there is a downloadable PDF version of the guide, as well as a Word Document version. Both of those versions are free of charge.

There are lots of ways that you can connect with God and others during these amazing moments and days. Don't limit yourself or the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit for His creative ideas during these 10 Days of Constant Prayer.

  • If you're a pastor, associate pastor or ministry leader, you might consider leaving your church doors open for small gatherings or plan some special prayer times.
  • You can prayer together as families or consider hosting a small group meeting in your home.
  • You could organize special concerts of prayer among multiple congregations.
  • Here in the San Antonio area, you can sign up online to take an hour of prayer, 24-hours a day during the 10 Days of Prayer. Just go to www.gdopsa.org to sign up - you can sign up for an hour slot even if you’re not from south Texas.
  • Some are fasting for one or all of the ten days.

So, put a bracket around some time in your schedule each day and consider joining with us during these next 10 days.

Back in January, I joined Steve Hawthorne, Bob Bakke, David Butts and several other international prayer movement leaders at the GDOP Huddle in Austin, Texas. At that meeting, there was such a sense of expectation and anticipation for this years Global Day of Prayer. It was an amazing two days.

I'm so privileged to be just a tiny participant in what God is doing with this massive grass-roots, world-wide movement of prayer.

My friend, Claude Hickman has written the following in his book, Live Life On Purpose. He writes,

"Throughout history God uses the reputation of His greatness as a trumpet, calling in the nations to Himself; a footprint, capturing our attention and leading the way to the Creator. The main way that the unreached see the glory and character of God is through the character of His people. God has made us to be the footprints of His name, displaying for the world that He can make a deep impact on our lives by turning us from the power of sin and to the holiness of God."

The Global Day of Prayer is a call from God to meet with Him along with many others so that He can change us and bring forth all He desires among the nations. Beginning this Thursday, May 21st, for 10 straight days, the whole world is invited to gather locally and pray globally through segments of the Lord's Prayer and 2 Chronicles 7:14, before the actual Global Day of Prayer on May 31st.

Graham Power, Chairman of the Global Day of Prayer says that, "On May 31st, God is again calling the nations from the north, south, east, and west to embark on this prayer journey with Him." Graham goes on to say, "I humbly invite you to join hundreds of millions of Christians as we seek God's face, and trust that people from the 220 countries of the globe will see willing believers standing in the gap for the nations."

I'm really looking forward to joining with you as we pray together for God to fulfill the great things He has promised: His transforming blessing in every people, and the life-giving glory of Christ's Lordship in every community.

Finally, please look for special edition of The Global Day of Prayer World-wide Movement Podcast to be released on Sunday morning, May 31st .

The Global Day of Prayer World-wide Movement Podcast is part of the one24worship.com Network. Its purpose is to help promote the glory of God in the midst of the Global Day of Prayer.

Hey, thanks for checking out the Journal entry today. Have a great week and Lord willing, I'll see you soon.

I Will Be With You

David Guion for one24worship.com

Encouraging the daily praise and worship of Jesus Christ because worship is a daily lifestyle, not just a weekly event!

David Guion on one24worship.comExodus 3:12 “He said, ‘But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.’”

"I will be with you."

With these five words the Lord confirms His presence with Moses and also the source of his certain success in his calling as a deliverer. For the first time, Moses can begin to understand both the depth of his brand new assignment and truth that God’s people are about to be released from slavery in Egypt so that they might be free serve the Lord.

The confirmation of God’s manifest presence with Moses came in response to Moses’ question, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?" How many times have we asked the Lord a similar question, in one form or another? Who am I? Why me, Lord? Certainly there must be someone else more qualified, right?

Yet, five simple words, "I will be with you," seem to make all the difference in the world. Like Moses, God chooses us, not based upon our performance, talent, skill or discipline. He uses foolish things to confound the wise, weak things to baffle the strong, poor things to dumbfound the rich. As believers in Jesus, just knowing that we are possessed by the active presence of the Lord can provide context for any hardship. With an acknowledgment of His presence comes an assurance in adversity. And because of His presence, every success finds its glory in the name of the Lord, not in our honed skills or abilities.

"I will be with you." That was the Lord’s promise to Moses and Jesus’ promise to His disciples (Matthew 28:20.) It’s still God’s promise to each and every follower of Jesus today.

Lord, we receive the truth of this promise. Grant that we may be conscious of and reliant upon Your active presence, every moment. Amen
