"When logic dictates one course of action and the Word of God declares another, to which will we consent?"

Life Journal Reading for November 19: Matthew 1-4Matthew 3:15 "But Jesus answered him, 'Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then he consented."
John the Baptizer rightly discerned the order here: Jesus is certainly more important than John (or us!) After all, Jesus is God in a human body and we are, well, we are humans in human bodies.
John's hesitation at baptizing Jesus is understandable but common sense alone does not always represent God's righteousness. Although it did not seem logical, it was evidently the right thing for John to baptize Jesus. Our attention must focus upon John's response ~ "Then he consented."
Are there areas in our lives where common sense would dictate one response but it would seem that the Holy Spirit is saying something contradictory? To which voice will we consent? John was reluctant but ultimately submitted to the voice of Jesus rather than to logic.
Where are we reluctant to act when Jesus speaks? Perhaps common sens would say, "Don't take the risk!" To that, perhaps Jesus is saying, "Following me removes the possibility of risk!"
Are we willing to consent to the voice of the Lord or will we stand our ground? One option is righteous, the other is sin. What is He saying? To which voice will we consent?
Lord, grant that we may hear your voice and trust You and obey.
Until next time,
David Guion
